The Skyleader 600, an all-metal, two-seat, low-wing aircraft designed for recreational flying, pilot training, and special operations, promises diverse applications.

Tanzania's aviation industry is soaring to new heights with the successful assembly of three aircraft at the Morogoro Regional Airport plant.

The facility, a branch of the Czech company Aeroplane Africa Limited (AAL), marks its debut in African aircraft assembly, setting the stage for further expansion and economic growth.

The assembled Skyleader planes, with a capacity of two to four passengers, represent a significant achievement for Tanzania.

Mussa Mbura, Director General of the Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA), hailed the milestone during a press briefing on Monday.

"These aircraft represent a significant achievement. The AAL investment creates revenue opportunities for the government and fosters job creation for Tanzanian citizens," said Mr. Mbura.

He further noted that there were plans for further expansion.

"The assembly of additional aircraft is imminent. Notably, one such aircraft was previously showcased at the Sabasaba industrial exhibition,” he said.

The plant, situated approximately 190km west of Dar-es-Salaam, holds a unique position as the sole AAL branch in Africa.

Eng Igor Stratl, Director of the Morogoro Plant, emphasised Tanzania's reputation for security, stability, and peace as key factors in AAL's decision to invest in the country.

"Many of the technicians employed by AAL are graduates of the National Institute of Transport (NIT)," noted Prof. Godius Kahyrara, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, highlighting the benefit to Tanzania's skilled workforce.

The Skyleader 600, an all-metal, two-seat, low-wing aircraft designed for recreational flying, pilot training, and special operations, promises diverse applications.

David Grolig, AAL director, emphasised the aircraft's suitability for business travellers on longer journeys. "We developed an aircraft that offers convenience for travel and facilitates attendance at various meetings outside the region before returning to the city for other activities," Grolig explained.
